Sergio Valdez, a former student of the famed math teacher Jaime Escalante from the film Stand and Deliver, was among those at NASA who helped lead the Mars Perseverance mission.
Valdez, an engineer manager for NASA s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) was among the ground controllers who jumped for joy as the NASA rover successfully touched down on the Red Planet on Feb. 18.
