Caldwell Elementary School has a new principal, and he is a familiar face to the students and staff there. Zachary B. Holt was named the schoolâs new principal with July 1 being his first official day in his new position.
Holt comes from a family of educators, so he is following a family tradition. His father, Buddy Holt, served as the principal of Caldwell for seven years. He is proud of his son and this accomplishment. âHe has worked hard for this,â said the senior Holt. âNow, it is time for him to do what he does with the opportunity given him.â
During Thursdayâs Scottsboro City Schools Board of Education meeting, the board passed a plan to rebuild both the baseball and softball fields.
The plan is to have Gameday Athletic Surfaces to âaerate, laser grade, top dress and fertilizeâ both the baseball and softball fields at a cost of $10,000 with Scottsboro City Schools providing the sand required, costing $4,224 plus trucking to move 192 tons of sand.
Gameday Athletic Surfaces will also rebuild the infield to the baseball field for $11,654. The total cost of the project will be $25,878 plus any potential trucking fees for the sand.
Scottsboro City Schools plan to have both fields completed before baseball and softball season.
As time draws near for the 2021-2022 school year, the Scottsboro City School System has announced the requirements for virtual learning. This option will be available for families, and the requirements have been announced for parents who choose this option for their children.
A Virtual Learning Information Meeting schedule has been announced for families who are interested in participating in virtual learning for the upcoming year. Â Parent/guardian participation in one of the meetings is required as part of the virtual learning program application process.
Students who will be in grades 4-8 should attend the meeting on July 6 at 5 p.m. or July 7 at l p.m. Students who will be in grades 9-12 should attend the meeting on July 6 at 6 p.m. or July 7 at 10:30 a.m. All meetings will be held at the Page Administration Building.
During Wednesdayâs Scottsboro City Board of Educationâs called meeting, board attorney Taylor Brooks brought a proposal for the hiring process and timeline for Scottsboro City Schoolâs new superintendent.
The job posting began on Thursday and will run until Aug. 2, at which point the applicants will be sorted and presented to the board members individually. Each board member will rank their top candidates one to three and candidates will be scored via that ranking system.
Jay Reyes, the former superintendent, announced his retirement on May 20. His retirement will be effective Aug. 1. Reyesâ assistant superintendent Amy Childress is currently serving as the interim superintendent.
