That has become even more evident in the past year during the Covid-19 emergency. The Scottish Women’s Convention and the Scottish Parliament will hold a virtual event tomorrow from 6pm-8pm to mark the day. Professor Linda Bauld, the Bruce and John Usher chair of Public Health in The Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh, will be speaking at the event. She fears that the economic impact of the pandemic will be felt particularly harshly by women.

Clydebank woman Rose Sehakizinka humbled at pandemic recognition for BAME community

A CLYDEBANK woman said she was “humbled” to receive recognition for her services to the BAME community during lockdown. Rose Sehakizinka has been working as a project co-ordinator for the Isaro Community Initiative since it was established in 2010. The Whitecrook-based organisation promotes the integration of new Scots in West Dunbartonshire. Now Rose has been commended by the Scottish Women’s Convention ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8. Rose explained: “While there was food available in various food banks, ethnic minorities found it difficult to find culturally appropriate food such as halal meat. “We decided to set up a mini food bank with culturally appropriate food to ensure people could access the food they are used to eating. We were also delivering around 20 to 30 parcels every week”
