Covid: Clydebank Men s Shed members desperate to return when restrictions allow

THE chair of the Men’s Shed group in Clydebank says its members are ‘desperate’ to return to work following the easing of restrictions. The group gives people in the town - not just men - the chance to meet, share their skills and ideas, and enjoy the experience of working and learning together. The group, based in the grounds of Dalmuir Community Centre, was formed in 2014, but has been unable to meet since early 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions. Scotland’s move into Level 3 restrictions on Monday meant Men’s Sheds could reopen as long as they comply with guidelines issued by the government and the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association – but the Clydebank group has a fair bit of work to do to its home base before its meetings can resume.

Award-winning Inverclyde Shed team set sights on a busy 2021

A VITAL community hub which helped to reduce isolation and loneliness in 2020 is set to support even more people this year. The team at Inverclyde Shed got involved in a myriad of eco-focused activities in communities across the district last year. Shed members didn t let the coronavirus pandemic stop them from keeping in touch and working on lots of different initiatives. From building orchards and setting up a digital shed, to delivering vegetables to the elderly and creating a remembrance garden, the team s dedication made life better for hundreds of people. Chairman Bruce Newlands says the Shed - crowned Scottish Men s Shed Association Shed of the Year in October - is a community where people can be comfortable and share their interests.

Men’s Sheds groups from across the north-east have continued to support their communities with new ways of working. As the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, clubs and organisations were shut down as the official guidance was to stay at home. However, the sense of community within members across the region never wavered, with groups using their skills to make PPE for those who needed it. And others dropped off vital medication and food to vulnerable people in the north-east who were unable to leave their homes.
