According to a new poll, Florida voters overwhelmingly support the new Gaming Compact between the state and Seminole Tribe of Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman Marcellus Osceola Jr. recently signed the new Gaming Compact, which would give the Tribe exclusive control of sports betting in Florida and allow pari-mutuels to offer sports betting under the tribe’s supervision. In exchange, the state would receive a minimum of $2.5 billion in revenue in the first five years of the 30-year deal, with yearly amounts adjusted afterward.

Pinellas County The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County says that because of greater “availability of vaccines in the community is ramping down operations at larger county COVID-19 sites.” To make COVID-19 vaccinations more accessible to all Pinellas residents, large sites in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park and Largo had been providing thousands of vaccines a week with assistance from the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) and partners in the county’s firefighting/EMS agencies. Port Canaveral in Florida became the first port to start distributing COVID-19 vaccines, officials announced.   Crew members and port workers were able to get vaccinated on Friday, and port officials said up to 1,000 shots could be given per day through the new vaccination model. The effort could expedite cruise ships departures from the sunshine state and comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced operators could resume sailing by mid-July. Port Canaveral began sponsoring a COVID-19 vaccine distribution for port workers and vessel crew members on Friday, becoming the first port in the United States to implement its own vaccination model. Port officials say as many as 1,000 shots may be given each day. The distribution began after a Florida Public Health Advisory approved by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Surgeon General Scott A. Rivkees expanded vaccine eligibility to people who are in the state to provide goods or services for residents and visitors.
