A bungalow on Avenue U off Tremblay Road was left uninhabitable after a kitchen fire blew through a window and into the carport Thursday evening, Ottawa Fire Services said.
Firefighters were summoned at 8:19 p.m. by a 911 call of reported smoke coming from the single-story house.

Crews doused the flames, preventing them from spreading, and had the fire under control at 8:38 p.m. They remained on the scene into the night to clear the smoke and salvage what they could.
