Hearing set on motions to dismiss discrimination suit against MESD

Coleman Madison County Circuit Judge Sarah Smith scheduled a hearing on motions to dismiss a former Metro East Sanitary District employee’s lawsuit alleging he was terminated due to political affiliation and then denied rehire due to his age.  The hearing had previously been set for March 4 but was continued to April 1 after the parties agreed.  Defendants Kurt Prenzler, Steve Adler, Scott Oney, Rick Fancher, and Metro East Sanitary District filed the motion to dismiss on Jan. 19 through attorney Gregg Kinney of HeplerBroom. Kinney later moved to withdraw as attorney for Madison County Chairman Prenzler. John Gilbert of Sandberg Phoenix entered his appearance on behalf of Prenzler on Feb. 12.

Former Metro East Sanitary District executive director claims he was illegally terminated

EDWARDSVILLE The Metro East Sanitary District (MESD) and its board members are being sued by a former executive director alleging his employment was illegally terminated.  Andy Economy filed a complaint Jan. 19 in the Madison County Circuit Court against MESD, Scott Oney, in his official capacity as Commissioner and President of the Metro East Sanitary District and others, alleging breach of contract.  According to the complaint, Economy was appointed executive director of the Metro East Sanitary District on Dec. 31, 2019, and entered into a four year contract that ended his employment on Dec. 31, 2023. Economy alleges the MESD failed to provide him with the compensation per the contract during his course of employment from Dec. 31, 2019, through Jan. 21, 2020, including his $50,000 per year salary and benefits.
