A driver who was caught behind the wheel while more than twice over the drink drive limit has been banned from driving. Geraint Williams, 54, was stopped by a police officer in the Churchstoke area after reports he was driving while intoxicated. He admitted to driving without a valid licence, insurance and drink driving above the legal limit at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 18. Scott McCrimmon, prosecuting, said that at around 10.30am on Sunday, April 4, PC Hewitt found Williams “unsteady on his feet and acting in a strange manner, slurring his words” and needed to hold on to his works vehicle, a white Mitsubishi pick up, to steady himself.
A woman has been fined for leaving a red mark on a police officer’s arm after she was detained for a DNA sample. Treena May Allison, 39, was sentenced at Welshpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 18, after pleading not guilty to assaulting Police Sargeant Reed. The prosecution said that at around noon on July 18 last year, police officers attended Allison’s property in order to arrest her for an unrelated incident. Scott McCrimmon told the court that Allison was acting “rather difficult and actively resisting” the officer. He eventually took hold of Allison but then there was a struggle and PS Reed “was bitten on the bottom of his forearm”. It did not break the skin.
A successful businessman who was late for an important engagement has been disqualified from driving after almost crashing while overtaking on a winding stretch of road. Simpson admitted driving his Ford Ranger dangerously when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 18. The prosecution said a witness who was driving along the A483 was overtaken by a grey Ford Ranger which narrowly missed another car travelling in the opposite direction and had to cut in behind another vehicle to avoid a collision. Scott McCrimmon added that the same grey Ford Ranger overtook another vehicle near properties that had cars parked on either side of the road.
A BEEKEEPER who made a hoax phone call to police claiming that a bus passenger was armed with a handgun has been given a suspended prison sentence. Rhys Williams Jones, 22, who now lives in Newtown, Wales, pleaded guilty to possession of a knife after police boarded the bus on which he was travelling at Bridgwater bus station on December 10 last year. The prosecution said that armed officers were called to the bus station after police received information that a passenger travelling from Taunton to Bridgewater had shown a handgun and a knife. But it then emerged that there was no such incident – and that Jones had been the one to make the call.
