The announcement was made on the township Facebook page by Township Manager Scott Hutt.
Hutt confirmed Stofflet did not die on duty, but declined to immediately provide a cause of death.

Stofflet was 47. He would have been 48 in February. Chief Stofflet was an asset to our department and strived on the principles of community-oriented policing, read a statement posted on the police department s Facebook page. He will be greatly missed by not only his fellow officers, but his family and the community that heâs proudly served for the last years, the department said.
Stofflet began his life in public service in 1991 after graduating from Boyertown Area High School, when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, according to the department s post.
