The federal funding will pay for a new state-of-the-art 911 phone system that will speed response times and provide better call tracking. It also will cover a backup power generator to ensure uninterrupted 911 service during power outages caused by severe weather or other emergencies, according to a news release.
Increased enforcement will continue throughout August to raise awareness to the law that makes it illegal to use a hand-held electronic device to text, make phone calls, watch videos and go on social media while driving, according to a press release.
"There would be nothing more frustrating than being at the front door and not being able to get in," said Chief Scott Hilden, Northville Township police.
