The organization announced the award this week, along with other honors. Overall, the Repository won more than 20 individual and staff awards.
The following current and former staff members were honored:
Tim Botos: First place for best feature writer; and second for best digital project
Steve Doerschuk: Second place for best sports enterprise
Charita Goshay: Third place for best columnist
Scott Heckel: First place for best photographer; first for best news photo; first for best photo story; second for best photo story; second for best sports photo; and third for best feature photo
Shane Hoover: First place for best business writer; and first for best digital project

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Vaney Hariri already knew what people would say when they found out where he was from:
“What’s in South Dakota?”
“What is there to do?”

South Dakota and the Midwest is more than a filler state, though. It’s filled with people who are making a difference in their communities, pursuing their passions and calling this “flyover country” home, he said.
So, he decided to take ownership in the insult.

CANTON, Ohio Diana Mae Heckel, 60, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. She was born in Hancock, January 26, 1961, to the late Fred and Mae (Ylitalo) Jones.
Diana graduated from Houghton High School in 1979, Michigan Technological University in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, and a master of science degree in accounting from Kent State University in 1989.
She married her high school sweetheart, Scott Heckel, on October 8, 1983. Her career began in banking at D & N Savings and moved to several other banks before her 30 plus year career at General Electric.
She was a loving mother and devoted wife who relished in discovering new culinary creations for the people she loved. Diana loved to travel with her husband and her family, discovering new experiences wherever possible.
