I’m rather partial to it myself. Given that yesterday, April 24, was considered, apocryphally or not, to be both the birthday and death day of William Shakespeare, who, with somewhere between 36 to 40 plays in verse and 154 sonnets to his credit is at least as much a poet as a playwright, I think it’s only fitting that I dedicate this column to him (whoever he may or may not be).

Businesses at the beach: Town Board to consider bumping up fees to operate

(Credit: Scott Feierstein) The Bonheur Spa operation that has been working out of the Sunset Beach Hotel, setting up on Crescent Beach, wants to return this year with a number of changes to comply with safety measures during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Owner Alexson Roy told the Town Board at its Tuesday work session he plans to set up two 10-foot by 10-foot tents and use plastic screens between tables that will be cleaned between customers for massages, plus rigorous social distancing for those making appointments and waiting. Noting the many years of successful operations at the site, Police Chief Jim Read said it’s important to work with those who want to do business on the Island. Supervisor Gerry Siller had said previously he had his doubts about the operation during the pandemic but said Tuesday he wouldn’t stand in the way of approving the operation.

Pop-up businesses seek town approval: Town Board to continue discussions next week

(Credit: Scott Feierstein) Several businesses are looking to the Town Board for a go-ahead to operate on town-owned sites this summer. With Sunset Beach closed last summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Islander had a food truck at Crescent Beach. If the state continues its reopening policies as COVID numbers drop, Islander owner Ashley Knight would like to return to the same site this summer. She made the request a few weeks ago and was encouraged to consider Wades Beach or another part of Crescent Beach away from Sunset Beach for her food truck.
