The officer-involved shooting of a knife-wielding man 17 months ago behind a Jacksonville grocery store has been ruled justified by the State Attorney s Office.
But while John Robert Ritter Jr. was sentenced in December for burglary and assault on a police officer stemming from the Feb.13, 2020, confrontation with Officer Timmy Davis, the 41-year-old killed himself on Jan. 27 in a prison, records show.
In addition to the State Attorney s Office conclusion that Ritter s shooting was justified under applicable Florida law, the Sheriff s Office s administrative review released Tuesday states deadly force was correctly used to prevent harm to Davis or others.
