TC - Change in Antarctic ice shelf area from 2009 to 2019

Abstract. Antarctic ice shelves provide buttressing support to the ice sheet, stabilising the flow of grounded ice and its contribution to global sea levels. Over the past 50 years, satellite observations have shown ice shelves collapse, thin, and retreat; however, there are few measurements of the Antarctic-wide change in ice shelf area. Here, we use MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) satellite data to measure the change in ice shelf calving front position and area on 34 ice shelves in Antarctica from 2009 to 2019. Over the last decade, a reduction in the area on the Antarctic Peninsula (6693 km2) and West Antarctica (5563 km2) has been outweighed by area growth in East Antarctica (3532 km2) and the large Ross and Ronne–Filchner ice shelves (14 028 km2). The largest retreat was observed on the Larsen C Ice Shelf, where 5917 km2 of ice was lost during an individual calving event in 2017, and the largest area increase was observed on Ronne Ice Shelf in

Antarctic Ice Shelves Growing • Watts Up With That?

Our observations show that Antarctic ice shelves gained 661 Gt of ice mass over the past decade, whereas the steady-state approach would estimate substantial ice loss over the same period, demonstrating the importance of using time-variable calving flux observations to measure change.

Tonga tsunami damaged sea glacier in Antarctica, 6000 km from HTHH

A tsunami, triggered by last year's Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption caused the collapse of the front of a sea glacier called the Drygalski ice tongue in Antarctica, 6000 km away, according to a research article published in the journal Science Bulletin recently.

PPACG Citizen Advisory Committee: Call for Applications

Shutterstock / Jacob Boomsma The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments has put out a call for applications for its  Community Advisory Committee. The committee, according to a PPACG news release, serves as the formal mechanism for the active participation of citizens in the planning, promotion, and evaluation of activities of the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments. The CAC is a non-technical body comprised of volunteers who offer a citizen’s perspective on issues such as transportation planning, aging issues, air and water quality, economic development and military planning in the Pikes Peak region. The CAC also ensures the responsiveness and accountability of government, helps create better plans and activities, and generates support for regional cooperation.

The New York Times revealed there is a lot of Harvey Weinstein victims coming forward in graphic detail accusing Harvey Weinstein and adding to the list that has now grown to more than 60. To saying I ll be your lawyer women are now empowered and they will never be silent again and a number of them thank you for coming today saying yes today I m here with another woman who alleges that she was sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein and so like so many high profile cases of this kind. There s glory already with her arms around these when then. Insisting that she s going to help give them voice. But which she s not saying is that she and her firm had actually known that something was wrong for years and had actually helped keep it quiet. d yesterday in. My colleague s making too he and Jodi Kantor reported on how Lisa Bloom switched over to defend Harvey Weinstein and used her experience representing women to undermine and to try to stop Meghan and Jodi s investigation into Weinstein.
