A furniture maker by trade, Scott Carlisle mounted a flag promoting President Donald Trump in side a 3 foot by 5 foot frame. He attached it to a large piece of wood, then bracketed it with campaign signs for Trump and Republican 3rd Congressional District candidate Lauren Boebert outside his Wisteria Lane home on Log Hill Mesa.
Historically Speaking: Soap Box Derby in Exeter
By Barbara Rimkunas
In 1951, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Exeter sponsored the town’s first Soap Box Derby. Racing down Town Hill, eleven boys competed in the distance race: Robert Sargent, Stephen Pluff, Scott Carlisle, Dan Carlisle, Victor Rogers, John Rogers, Ralph Landry, John Anderson, Robert Lowther, Robert Taylor and Kenneth Linscott.
Lowther, Landry, and Anderson won the race, earning them $5, $3, and $2, respectively. The VFW garnered some publicity for their building fund and pledges for the Red Cross blood drive. All around, it was a fun event. The Exeter News-Letter noted, “Judging by the enthusiasm of the boys and the spectators, the committee feels that the Soap Box Derby was a success. It is hoped to have a bigger and better Soap Box Derby in the spring.”

EAST BLOOMFIELD Back in 2015 Jim and Jeanette Zavislan, then of Pittsford, were looking for a ranch house on about 10 acres.
Instead, the empty nesters fell in love with a storied circa-1840 Greek Revival house, known as the George and Addison Wheeler House, with a large barn on more than 100 acres. Jim, a professor at the University of Rochester, and Jeanette, an independent technical writer and an avid gardener, have since embraced the country life on their Grimble Road property.
“Our three grown children love visiting to enjoy the fresh air,” Jeanette said.
