Jersey City police officers to replace civilians who watch CCTV cameras, will focus on crime ‘hotspots’

Starting the end of May, Jersey City police officers will have their eyes on the city’s closed-circuit television cameras, focusing on crime “hotspots” and “known or suspected criminals.”
The city is moving the CCTV unit away from civilians in the communications division, to police officers in investigative units on a full-time basis starting May 31, human resources deputy director Scott Carbone said in a letter to Julio Cordero, the president of the Jersey City Public Employees Union Local 246, and union lawyer Paul Mackey.
