While those Hurricane Force winds have now left the North Carolina coast, the rain continues. It has been more than 24 hours of a steady downpour here, at least 20 inches have already fallen where i am and we could see another 20 inches. That is creating very dangerous situations on the roads for anyone trying to move around. We got a look with the police at the damage along the coast this morning. Some of the houses suffering significant damage, some roofs off and mobile homes were hit the hardest. The real question now is trying to get electricity back up for so many people. Hundreds of thousands of people in the dark, often cut off by the water. Power crews have been out around the clock to try and make those houses much more liveable situation. Theyve move the inland, thats part of the problem. There are other dangers, too. Weve just been placed under a tornado watch. Tornadoes can often responsible out of a weather system like florence. Ed, youre in a neighborhood that has been flooding since this morning. I saw you earlier and the water is coming up fast. Reporter this is a neighborhood along highway 258, north of jacksonville. Its a neighborhood where you look out here into the distance, where people are really just holding on and bracing for the worst. That is all they can do at this point. Many homes here, just to kind of give you a lay of the land, if you look back there in the distance, that tree line, there is a river that cuts its way through, and all of this water that is flooding into this neighborhood is coming out of that neuse river. Still moving very slow. In fact, the latest information that we had with the aircraft and also looking on radar moving west at only 5 Miles Per Hour. So moving very slowly. So around that center you can see that intense rainfall and also some still gusty winds with the latest information still remaining at 75 Miles Per Hour. So, still a lot of gusty winds and, you know, very dangerous situation right center. Lets look away from that. These rain bands can be particularly dangerous as you have areas like this. I want to draw it like that because this is important to look at because really when you look at it on the radar you start seeing this rain moving really fast thats really because the rotation around the hurricane. But, notice, that entire band stays within the lines that i drew. That means repetitive rainfall over the same areas and thats where we are seeing incredible rainfall totals. The focus now, where will the storm head next . Charleston, South Carolina, could take something of a direct hit. The storm could make landfall there tomorrow. Thats where the storm is going. Where its already been theres been so much devastation. The bahamas, theyre only now waking up to the damage there. Rescue crews not able to arrive on mass yet.
