According to the DfT, a lack of enforcement was found to be one of the leading factors for non-compliance of new 20mph limits.
The DfT said there was “widespread view” 20mph limits are not enforced with the likelihood of being caught speeding very small.
Transport Scotland will be aiming to avoid this level of non-compliance as part of their bid to dramatically boost safety on the roads.
Their interim targets for 2030 include a 50 percent reduction in people killed and seriously injured on the roads.
