the coin, these aren t rocket science investigations, and i don t think it s going to take a lot to catch up. but on the other hand, i think that one of the bigger concerns is while i praise the attorney general for trying to be transparent and completely above board, i don t think this appointment really adds value when you look at the regulations under which he appointed the special counsel. which means that at the end of the day, the person who ultimately has say over whether or not an indictment is issued or how the investigation concludes, is the very person who appointed the special counsel, which is attorney general garland. so, look, if you re looking back in time, you know, look, the independent counsel law extinguished, and that gave people too much leeway, and the special counsel rules maybe narrowed it too much. when you look back into the bush administration, you saw the acting attorney general at the time sitting in for attorney
is a huge victory for putin. tucker: that s a deep point. i would say one other thing here, too, tucker. this investigation isn t where it ought to be right now. mueller is on the back foot. the fbi is on the back foot, and trump is actually teaching a lesson here.. if you look at what happened during the bush administration during that disgraceful scooter libby investigation a few yearsha ago, where bush took the high road and steered clear of it and it was immensely damaging to him. trump, on the other hand, is saying there is a bigger scandal here, and so far that biggers scandal is outpunching the so-called russia investigation. tucker: so far, that s right. i think the memo will shine a lot of light on that in either direction. mark steyn, thank you for that.il that was interesting. thanks, tucker. tucker: we are still awaiting the president s speech. that should begin at any moment.
because he lied to the vice president and lied to the fbi. so not what s on your screen. we ll get to that in a moment. my question to you is, how significant is it? if the president did know that flynn lied to the fbi and subsequently went to james comey, the head of the fbi and said i hope you can see your way to letting this flynn thing go, how significant? if what the tweet says is true, it s very significant. it s a departure from the story that he had before, which is, that he just thought flynn is a good guy, he wanted to help out his buddy, his pal, you know, that while may be inappropriate to do, is not necessarily a criminally liable act. however, going to the director of the fbi and asking him to drop an investigation which you know is one that concerns an actual felony that has been committed definitely goes to
hint that he knew that flynn had lied to the fbi before he fired him. this matters. shimon prokupecz with us on that. good morning, shimon. good morning. so yeah, so there was a series of tweets right, and one of them included where as you just said, that the president was aware that flynn lied to the fbi. pretty significant and certainly raised a lot of eyebrows because it goes to the heart of the obstruction case. that s why the special counsel was put together. one way, was to look at a possible obstruction case and that when the former fbi director was fired, did the president do that because of the russia investigation, because, as we know, according to comey, he said, can you let this go. the president said to comey, can you let this go. so then the special counsel comes in. this could all be used as part of a conspiracy, as part of a bigger case, which it seems the
witness katy perry. aaaaaaw look at that dog! katy perry: with music videos and behind the scenes footage, xfinity lets you witness all things me. this morning, the president s attorney says that donald trump cannot be guilty of obstructs justice because he s the president. all right. joining us now to discuss this and much more, congressman denny heck, a democrat from washington, member of the house intelligence committee. thanks so much for being with us. let us just ask you, you know, make it crystal clear based on what you ve seen and know now, did the president obstruct justice? i think it s certainly enough evidence has been presented to be a topic worthy of investigation and following up. i noted that senator feinstein said on one of the talking shows over the weekend she thought the senate judiciary committee ought to take it up. the house judiciary committee
