Residents in the Ritchie and Old Strathcona neighbourhoods are again trying to prevent Boyle Street Community Services from opening an overdose prevention site on 81st Avenue and 101st Street.
Boyle Street Community Services is hoping a second attempt to get a permit for an overdose prevention site in West Ritchie will be a win when the agency appears before an appeal board later this month.
The Edmonton Subdivision and Development Appeal Board has revoked a permit for Boyle Street Community Services’ new health hub in Ritchie but that doesn’t mean the overdose prevention site won’t ever open.
Opponents say an overdose prevention site would increase crime and social disorder in their neighbourhood but supporters say they're responding to a pre-existing need.
