As part of an effort to improve COVID-19 vaccination rates in rural areas, the Cayuga County Health Department held a free walk-in clinic Tuesday at the Scipio Center Fire House. The department said this week that unvaccinated residents are accounting for most of the recent coronavirus spread in the county, and urged people who have not received a shot to do so soon. The county also reminded unvaccinated residents to continue wearing masks when appropriate: Many of the recent positive cases were unvaccinated people who disclosed not wearing their face covers around others when gathering as a family or when socializing. This is alarming. The evidence points to unvaccinated individuals directly exposing others, including vulnerable members of the community.
