SSU announces 2021 Faculty Awards

PORTSMOUTH- Shawnee State University has announced the 2021 Faculty Awards. As part of this year’s presentation, the recipient of the Early Career Faculty Teaching Award is Jessica Carrington. An Assistant Professor of Nursing, Carrington has been with the university’s Department of Nursing since 2018. An alumna of SSU, Carrington received her Associate Degree of Nursing in 2010 before continuing her education to receive her BSN and MSN at other institutions. Within her field, she connects with students in clinical and lab settings as well as face-to-face and online courses. Within the university she has been part of several teams including the Honors Committee, Educational Policy & Curriculum Committee, Admission, Progression & Graduation Committee, and the Resources Committee. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association.

The first of seven legislation items discussed, the council decided to again table the measure which would have struck a deal between the city and the Scioto County Heritage Museum. Addressing council in the first meeting open to public attendance in more than a year, SCHM Treasurer Sharon Bender detailed the museum’s restorative progress at its 733 Fifth St. location- home of the former Marting’s building.

For the first time in more than a year, the council and the City Managers session following its conclusion will be open to the public. Starting at 6 p.m. at the Shawnee State University Ballroom, all attendees are expected to wear masks and to practice social distancing. Proclamations for the SSU men’s basketball team and the Community Action Organization of Scioto County will be read before giving a third and final reading of a lease agreement with the Scioto County Heritage Museum.
