This is just over two hours. I would like to call the hearing to order. First off, i would like to recognize the chairman of the committee for a segment. Thank you. I want to thank the senator for chairing the hearing today. Sen. Casey serving as Ranking Member at senator murrays request. They have both been real leaders on this subject. Senator burr was the original i will call it the all hazards preparedness act. In 2006. The law helps protect us from the full range of Public Health threats. In 2013, senators berger and senator burr and senator casey led the committee. Many members of the committee contributed, some are still on the committee. In the middle of the flu season, it is critical we reauthorize the act before many of its provisions expire and set number. I hope we will do this in a bipartisan way and i expect that. It has been the tradition with the law and with this committee on almost all of our major bills. Thele are not as aware of devastation of, for example, loop. I
Center for economic law. It is my pleasure to introduce our lunch speaker, kevin hassett. Many of you may know kevin. He is currently chairman of the council of economic advisers and before that, was a senior ekeehn mist. Held the james q. Wilson chair m American Culture and politics at the American Enterprise institute. Aei, where he was one of the leading thinkers there. And before joining aei, kevin was senior economist at Federal Reserve board. Now any of you who know kevin or have seen him speak know he is a clear thinker, a straight talker, and says what he thinks. And he is, i think, serving the administration, the country extraordinarily well. The format were going to used to is question and answer. I will lead off with a question or two for kevin. People are very happy. We have questions about trade and tariffs on china. President trump thank you for the nice things you have said. Of years [indiscernible] President Trump not everybody can come into the country. You have wives and husbands and sons and daughters. It is a tricky situation. They are not bringing their finest. [indiscernible] 10 people have been badly hurt. Nobody mentions the people who have lost their arms. Chain migration. Even democrats know the system is not good. We are going to ta
