Gary Bertoline stood in front of Purdue Polytechnic High School Schweitzer Center at Englewood on Indianapolis’ east side and delivered the keynote address to 113 students who were set to graduate from PPHS and embark on the next chapters of their lives.
Purdue Polytechnic High Schools – with locations in Indianapolis and South Bend – will celebrate its second graduating class on June 10 with a series of firsts.
In 2016, Purdue President Mitch Daniels stood on the steps of the PR Mallory Building on Indianapolis’ east side, promising a new pathway to Purdue University for students in Marion County through the establishment of Purdue Polytechnic High School.
Charged by the Board of Trustees in the fall of 2020, Purdue University continues taking steps to enhance the experience for Black Boilermakers. As part of the multimillion-dollar Equity Task Force initiative, Purdue is hiring additional recruiters to help attract Black students; is expanding existing programs such as Emerging Leaders; and thanks to more than $25 million in donations, is introducing more scholarship opportunities for underrepresented minority students.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The pipeline of qualified students flowing from Indianapolis to West Lafayette is now open. Purdue’s latest enrollment data shows that the university is reaching students and families in the state’s capital as never before.
Forty students from the first graduating class of Purdue Polytechnic High School Schweitzer Center at Englewood in Indianapolis are among the more than 10,000 incoming freshmen expected to arrive on campus later this summer as part of the university’s largest freshman class ever. In addition to PPHS Schweitzer Center located on Indianapolis’ east side, there is the North campus near Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple neighborhood and PPHS South Bend.
