he s a force of nature. the media spotlight. none of this is a surprise. and i think that he s a profoundly disordered thinker. and he s been insulated i think by wealth and celebrity from having to learn from his mistakes over the years. and he s just sort of perpetuated the same schtick. so i don t think donald trump without a lot of factual basis to what he s saying or even preparation because he prides himself on freelancing. isn t the problem here that people who get caught in this economic downturn will know it and feel it and suffer no matter what the verbiage coming out? i think that s totally true and i think that s what s ringing in the back of his mind now. i think when you looked up at the heavens and said he s the chosen one he s looking at his evangelical base. i don t think he s under any illusion he s the second coming, but i think he knows it s a useful political tool.
we have more results that i think will come out over the weekend that might get more into that question of, okay. democratic voters say electability matters. okay. let s match up some of these democrats against president trump and see who looks like it. we may have more information on that in the coming days. stay with us. let s broaden out the conversation. back with us my guests. victoria, let s talk elizabeth warren. within striking distance of joe biden, now at 19%. he is at 26%. what do you think? so after the first night of debate i knew elizabeth warren was going to skyrocket. i am not surprised at all. in the second night of the debate when i saw bernie sanders kind of refried, same old schtick as in 2016 i knew e-elizabeth warren was really going to cinch it. not surprising in terms of elizabeth warren. for me what was surprising was to see kamala harris remain in the third place. i think her support should have been a little bit higher.
[ applause ] all right, he walked into the room and the crowd went wild. joining us now former u.s. congressman from texas now a candidate for president of the united states, i need to roll up my sleeves, beto and i have a joke because i made fun of his vanity fair schtick. you look great. thank you. he s a candidate for the president of the united states. beto o rourke is here. so you have done so many town hall meetings. you had the launch that a lot of pomp and circumstance, a lot of covers, all this other i made fun of that. you didn t like it. we talked. but then you put your head down, you went out to town hall meetings, and i m going to ask you about the debate in a minute. i m always fascinated by and i know michael is the same way,
vote to reverse what the previous vote was. let me turn to you in the u.s. where things are totally normal. let s take a step back and look at legislating, what this says what s happening in london, what this says is happening in washington, d.c. you had this piece of legislation vetoed by the president and congress that sometimes talks about biparti n bipartisansh bipartisanshi bipartisanship. because there s such a parallel to this country, what happened with trump and brexit was the canary in the coal mine, people were so shocked and didn t know what to do with trump s victory and republicans were cowed by it and realized they needed to change quickly to adapt to what trump was bringing to the table. first couple of years he was in office, he could basically run the table. he didn t do a lot legislatively because that s not his schtick. it was all about image and media
alternative to ted cruz for them. i think he will definitely face more scrutiny on those kinds of questions and more scrutiny on being more detailed in response to those questions. he did talk about it. the proposal by name. he first zoomed out a lot and took a while to get back to it. he spoke very much about the princip principle, the urgency of fighting climate change. you re going to see him pressed to be more detailed as these other candidates become more detailed. you wrote in part, quote, if beto is up with people schtick, democratic primary in an essential year, then they may face sounds like he might be more style over substance.
