May 1, 2024, International Labour Day, also known as May Day, is celebrated around the world on either the first Monday in May or on May 1, whatever day that turns out to be. It dates back to May 1, 1886, when a general strike culminated into what is known as the Haymarket Affair in Chicago on May 4, 1886. It had been usually celebrated here on the first Monday in May.
