MINNEAPOLIS (AP) â Republicans who control the Minnesota Senate signaled Friday that they may fire one or more of Democratic Gov. Tim Walz s Cabinet commissioners, injecting drama into a special session that many lawmakers thought was essentially over.
GOP Sen. Michelle Benson, of Ham Lake, wouldn t name the commissioners who might be in danger when pressed by Democratic senators. But she said Republicans plan to âremain vigilant and attentive to the governor s appointments when the Senate reconvenes Tuesday. She didn t say how long the Senate might remain in special session.
That drew an angry response from the few Democratic senators present for what most expected to a brief, routine meeting. They said they were upset by the lack of transparency.

MADISONââ As chair of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski today announced a record $39 million will be disbursed to public school libraries across Wisconsin to help students, parents, and educators continue to tackle the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Common School Fund is a crucial source of revenue that enables school libraries to provide students with books and technology, greatly enhancing the educational experience and success of young people in every corner of the state. For 92% of school libraries, the Common School Funding is the only available source of funding.
The disbursement â the largest regular distribution in BCPL history â was announced virtually on Sunday evening to librarians and educators gathered for the Wisconsin Educational & Media Technology Associationâs (WEMTA) annual conference.
CHEYENNE â One of the more gnarly issues to face the elected officials who sit on the state Board of Land Commissioners came up again recently and is likely to return.
During their Nov. 5 meeting the board members voted against granting ConnectGen a lease on state land for its proposed wind energy farm in Albany County, a big project.
The decision came after the board members â Gov. Mark Gordon, Secretary of State Ed Buchanan, Auditor Kristi Racines, State Treasurer Curt Meier and State Superintendent of Public instruction Jillian Balow â heard testimony for and against the project, but mostly against.
The case is an example of the conflict between the public majorityâs wishes â rejection of the lease â and the boardâs legal responsibility to the school trust to get the most money possible from the state school lands for the benefit of the schools.
