The Department of School Education and Literacy is currently discussing the possibility of advancing school timings in Bangalore by 30 minutes to 1 hour.
During a recent discussion, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar commented, “The issue of school timings is a social problem. Parents must prepare their children and then return to work. The morning hours often experience heavy traffic congestion. My school is in RR Nagar, and the school bus has to travel from Sadashivanagar to pick up children, leaving them stuck in peak traffic.
The Karnataka High Court, with a view to ease traffic congestion in Bengaluru, has suggested the State government to call a meeting of stakeholders and take up the issue of revisiting school timings.
