New tonight amtrak trains on the northeast corridor are running on schedule again a day after a train hit a backhoe just outside of philadelphia. More than 30 passengers and the engineer were taken to hospitals after the collision which derailed the train. Now investigate rs are trying to learn why the backhoe was on the rails in the first place. Reporter its still unclear at this hour why that backhoe was on the tracks, but new york senator Chuck Schumer says it may have been clearing debris from the storm that night or was being used for regular maintenance since fewer trains run on sunday mornings. The train was heading from new york to savannah, georgia at about 8 00 a. M. On sunday when it hit a piece of equipment on the tracks.
