world, i am jim acosta, wolf blitzer is off, you are in the situation room. the fallout is just beginning after the stunning admission by police in texas that a wrong decision was made in response of the school s massacre. governor abbott saying he was misled. our correspondent has our report from uvalde, texas. i was misled. i tonight, greg abbott aiming his anger at law enforcement. my expectation is that the law enforcement leaders that are leading the investigations which includes the texas rangers and the fbi, they get to the bottom of every fact with absolute certainty. reporter: after damming new admissions from texas authorities surrounding the commander who made the decision not to immediately enter the classroom the gunman was in. the decision was made this was a barricaded subject. there was time to retrieve the key to wait for a tactical team to breach the door to take on the subject at that point. that was a wrong decision. reporter: officials exp
classroom and opening fire. the suspect armed with an ar-15-style rifle, ultimately killed by police. and tonight, investigators say the suspect turned 18 just nine dys ago. and that he bought his ar-15-style rifle the next day. then another one just a few days later. and nine days after his birthday, he was here at this school. we are now learning more about the children tonight and their two teachers. some of the children getting end of the year awards the morning of the shooting. some of their parents, their loved ones were at the school not knowing it would be the last time they saw their children. and tonight here, my interview with a young father, the video he showed me of his daughter fishing with him. and what he s vowing to do tonight in honor of his daughter. also tonight, we have now learned how long it took to take down the gunman after his first encounter with police here in uvalde. and the officers inside the school, border patrol, sheriffs, police. now we hav
john: fox team coverage from across the country. bill will begin things for us on the ground in uvalde, texas for us. our coverage continues. bill. bill: sandra, a lot of conflicting reporting whether or not there was a school police officer on campus when the shooting took place. texas d.p.s. tells me there was a school officer on campus who exchanged gunfire with this gunman. i m told that the officer was shot and injured and that is when the shooter ran inside the school, got into a classroom, barricaded himself and started shooting in discrimnatly, shows the 18-year-old local resident armed with the rifle going into the school. he shot his grandmother in the face a short time before this, then drove to the school, crashed his car, got out, apparently engaged in gunfire with the school officer, hurt him, went inside, then committed this heinous shooting. take a listen to the 911 dispatch audio. all units stand by. bill: if you look at video of children evacuated
mirror on another topic and ask ourselves what kind of country do we want to be? a long list of communities have been ravaged by a senseless mass shooting. residents of uvalde, texas, face the task of burring 21 members of their community. that includes 19 third and fourth graders. those 21 victims were killed by an 18-year-old gunman armed with an ar-15 style rifle, the same type of rifle used in the shootings in parkland and sandy hook. the shooting taking place just two days before those students summer break was going to begin. texas department of public safety spokesperson lieutenant chris olivara described how police officers had faced someone who as he puts it, had no regard for human life. the shooter was involved in a domestic disturbance with his grandmother prior to the shooting at the school. he did shoot his grandmother at that point. he then fled in a vehicle, and was in close proximity near the school when we got calls. local law enforcement at the uvalde po

This all began around 11, 30 this morning. No injuries have been reported. Police are saying now they have detained people in connection to this incident.
