KENNEBUNK, Maine – Recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, improving communication, and increasing the district’s focus on children and curriculum were recurring themes when the six candidates for RSU 21 School Board were recently interviewed about their campaigns.
Another theme that often popped up: all candidates are newcomers looking to step off the sidelines and onto the field to oversee the district during a challenging time in education.
A change in the board s makeup is inevitable, as none of the four incumbents Michael Mosher and Gayle Asmussen Spofford of Kennebunk, Sarah Dore of Kennebunkport, and Devon Havey of Arundel decided to seek reelection this time around.

It’s time for the faeries to return to Maine. Build a faerie house to welcome them back. Faeries love the outside, so Kennebunk Free Library encourages the use of natural materials when building a house.
Starting April 5, participants can pick up a grab-and-go bag with faerie house building materials at Kennebunk Free Library.

Materials such as bark, sticks, leaves and stones. Starting April 5, participants can pick up a grab-and-go bag with some faerie house building materials to get started while supplies last.
After building a faerie house, participants are encouraged to take photos. Send the library at least three pictures of the faerie house from different angles and give the house a name. The Seacoast Garden Club will give each house a title, and the library will create certificates.
KENNEBUNK, Maine – As school districts consider whether to increase the number of days students can attend school in person, local families are sharing how the hybrid model of instruction has affected them.
Some say the hybrid approach has worked well since the school year began in September. Others consider the model insufficient to meet students academic, social and emotional needs.
Brandon Schiebel, 9, goes to Sea Road School four days a week, but that doesn t mean he s always in his classroom with his teacher or his peers.
Brandon gets in-class instruction Mondays and Tuesdays, and he learns from home on Wednesdays, but on Thursdays and Fridays he learns remotely – not from home, but from the Sea Road School gymnasium. There, employees of the Kennebunk Recreation Department supervise him and other children, helping them set up their computers for their Zoom classes and making sure they keep on schedule.
