Environmental Humanities Colloquium: Underflows: Queer and Trans Among Rivers

Cleo Wölfle Hazard, assistant professor in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs at the University of Washington, will present “Underflows: Queer and Trans Among Rivers” for the first talk in the fall 2022 Environmental Humanities and Social Transformation Colloquium sponsored by the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI). Wölfle Hazard will present ecological field-research practices that are grounded in an affectively oriented queer and trans focus on love and grief for rivers and fish. Drawing on the idea of underflows the invisible underground currents that seep through soil or rise from aquifers through cracks in the bedrock he will discuss the cultures, sciences and politics where Native nations and marginalized communities fight to protect rivers.
