come out of this pandemic for people to think again about the vaccines they might have missed out on and come forward. in particular, people leaving school need to make sure they have a meningitis jack before they have a meningitis jack before they go either to university or start work in the summer. people in their 70s might have missed out on a shingles vaccine so they should come forward this winter. we know that some babies are behind on their six in one and mmr vaccine and it s important for them to catch up as well. the school immunisation programmes in particular have been struggling because schools have been closed so much so school immunisation teams are doing a brilliantjob in trying to reschedule appointments so people can get some of those life saving vaccines like the hpv vaccine that protects against cervical cancer. i strongly encourage people who have missed out for whatever reason to make sure they get an appointment and come forward. looking ahead to

Parents fearful as HSE redeployment holds up school immunisation scheme

Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan has obtained information from the Department of Health which shows 100 HSE staff working in primary care have been redeployed to deal with the pandemic, compared with 13 in Galway, Roscommon, and Mayo. It is unacceptable that the redeployment has been skewed in such a way as to disadvantage the midlands, Mr Flanagan said. This may well endanger the health and welfare of these children. A spokesman for the HSE confirmed the programme has been deferred twice during 2020 before being resumed in June where a catch-up exercise ensured that everyone who was offered school immunisation for school year 2019/20 had been offered their relevant vaccination .
