vaccine the way that states mandate it in different every state has different mandates. but states mandate chicken pox vaccine, mumps, measles, rubella, et cetera, et cetera? once it s fda approved there s no reason for it to be treated differently than any other vaccine. here s the interesting thing. the states with the highest immunization rates for other vaccines for children have are states that have mandates for school entry and virtually no exceptions. so alabama and mississippi have fantastic vaccination rates for their children. and they have the worst vaccination rates for covid for adults and for children. this vaccine needs to be treated the same way. and once it s fda approved, which means that it has the full confidence of our expert scientists in the federal government, we should treat it the way we treat all other vaccines. let s talk about colin powell for a minute, okay? an american hero. a proud republican. an immigrant who was twice
everyone who s visible. because kids immune systems are stronger than adults, that s why we only need a lower dose. and with the lower dose, that means fewer side effects, as well. and so we know that more than six million children have been infected with covid so far, and there have been more than 600 death. all those are tragic. and so as much as possible, i d like to protect the children in our country and in the world. uh-huh. so as time goes on, do you see that ultimately covid vaccines are going to become part of that usual regimen of shots that all schools require, public schools require of all kids? so we already require in most schools mmr vaccine among many others such as whooping cough. definitely covid vaccine is recommended now, and states will have control over whether that vaccine will be required for school entry or not. and so i think it just remains to be seen. for now i do think it s really important for as many people as possible to get the vaccine to
pandemic-related restrictions imposed last year in your state. how are things in higher ed in connecticut? right now all of our higher ed institutions mandated vaccines for everybody. overwhelmingly people are complying with that. and they have the lowest infection rates in the state. these are young people living in congregate settings. it s working. you have not taken the step that california was the first state to take, which is to add covid vaccination to the list of required vaccinations for school entry. that s for kids that are 12 to 18. why not? right now, we re using encouragement. i would say we ve got well over 75% of those kids vaccinated. i am requiring the mask for everybody, k-12. i think that s keeping people safe. so you ve got 75% of that eligible population vaccinated just through so what s going
