Divulging details, Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that the Education Department had not only been keen to make up for the shortage of teachers in government schools to provide quality education facilities to the students belonging to underprivileged sections of the society but had also made elaborate arrangements to ensure transparency at each and every level the recruitment process.
The list of 2823 eligible candidates for the recruitment under 3704 Master Cadre posts has been released after scrutiny conducted from January 27 to February 2. School education has been among the top performers for Punjab in facing the challenges of the Covid outbreak this year. Catering to more than 60 lakh students in approximately 25,000 schools, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) faced the never-seen-before challenges of enrolment, teacher training, teaching, teacher-student interaction and complacency.
And, for the first time, everything had to be done online. Besides internet on normal computers, the exercises were designed for smartphones.
The first roadblock was getting the teachers ready for computer education. The department introduced Ghar Baithe Sikhiya for digital education through TV/ radio channels and YouTube. Teachers were taught to use the Punjab Educare App and training sessions were organised at the Indian School of Business.

In a new attempt at helping students in grasping the nuances of spoken language, especially English, the Education Department has introduced Language Listening Laboratories in as many as 330 government schools. With a clear aim of catching them young to tutor the students to handle communication in English language, the programme has been introduced only in the Primary Schools.
Primary schools in Ludhiana district have got the biggest share of 25 schools followed by Patiala (23) and Hoshiarpur (22). Barnala, Faridkot, Moga and Pathankot and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts are on the lowest step of the ladder with 10 schools each.
Teacher at Government Primary School, Behrampur Road (Gurdaspur district), Guriqbal Singh, said, “We have received a portion of the equipment for the special Language Learning lab. The programme is designed to help students in better listening skills to improve their pronunciation of the students”.
