Dr. Linus Guillory will be Brookline s new permanent school superintendent, following the School Committee s unanimous approval Thursday.
He will be the first Black superintendent the district has had.
The position has been vacant since former Superintendent Andrew Bott stepped down nearly two years ago. Guillory will take the reins from Interim Superintendent Dr. Jim Marini, the second interim leader since Bott resigned. His appointment will be effective July 1 and is conditioned on the negotiation of his contract.
The sole finalist in Brookline’s superintendent search (the other two finalists dropped out), Guillory brings with him more than 20 years in education. His experience ranges from nearby Lowell where he currently serves as chief schools officer to Rochester, New York, and Houston, Texas, where he worked for NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Holyoke Public Schools refine hybrid learning plan
Updated Feb 10, 2021;
Vazquez Matos said the district would prioritize the youngest learners reentering classrooms, including pre-K through grade 5.
The district will enact Classroom Learning Centers, a hybrid model, for grades 6-8 twice weekly. The centers provide an all-day, in-person option for students who want the live experience. Remote learners would join sessions.
Teachers will maintain their remote schedule with staff offering support for in-person students at the centers, with a tentative location for grades 6-9 at Holyoke High School North Campus.
Vazquez Matos expects families to receive the schedules next week. Enrollment would dictate current and future staffing levels at the learning centers.

HADLEY April Camuso, named as the interim principal at Hopkins Academy for the school year in June, will remain in the position on a permanent basis.
Superintendent Annie McKenzie informed the School Committee Monday that she was dispensing with what could be an extensive search for a principal and would instead remove the interim label from Camuso’s job title.
“She’s an extremely effective educator,” McKenzie said of Camuso, who had previously served as the English Department’s chairwoman and adviser to the student newspaper and Gender Equity Task Force.
