Gaured and preserved these materials as well and its this early collection of books that actually is the foundation of the state Library Research collection today. Im often asked which is the oldest book in the collection. We do have a book or a pamphlet from 1496 which is our oldest item but its only seven pages long we dont feature it as a book. Our oldest book is this one. 15 pa and printed in switzerland. The interesting thing about this book it has legend, as often the case, legends are not true only partially true and the legend about this book is that it was owned by philip in germany and he was a close friend and thinker during the protestant reformation. What led to think to believe that it belonged to him was notations throughout the book and sold by samuel, the book seller as copy, most likely because he could make many if associated with someone famous. Scholars say that the writing does not match his handwriting. So unfortunately that particular legend is not true, however
