China to announce name of its first Mars rover on Saturday Apr 22, 2021, 09:46 China will announce the name of its first Mars rover on Saturday (April 24), coinciding with the country s Space Day, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The CNSA launched a global naming campaign for its Mars rover on July 24, 2020, one day after the successful launch of the Tianwen-1 Mars probe. The public was invited to vote for their favorite names on social media among 10 candidate names from January to February 28. The 10 names on the shortlist are:  - Zhurong, the name of the god of fire in Chinese mythology;
