Editorial: Reform bears early fruit

THE STAKES:
Long ago as it may seem, it was only this past May that a Black man named George Floyd died in Minneapolis when a police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes, and a national conversation began.
It’s a conversation that hasn’t been universally welcomed, and it hasn’t always been peaceful. There are those, from the president and attorney general on down, who have sought to derail it through disinformation, intimidation, and provocation. But all these months since Mr. Floyd’s death seven months, as of Christmas Day we’re seeing signs, right here in the Capital Region, that the conversation is well worth having.
