Foss: Efforts to get vaccine to needy ramping up

Foss: Efforts to get vaccine to needy ramping up | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 Carl Jackson is eager to get the COVID-19 vaccine.   “I’ll be able to rest easy once I have it,” the 87-year-old Schenectady resident told me, while volunteering at the food pantry at Schenectady Community Ministries. “I’ll feel very comfortable, having something in my body that can help me fight the disease.” Jackson’s age places him at higher risk of developing a severe illness or dying from COVID-19, but he hasn’t tried to get a vaccine appointment yet, for a couple of reasons.

Schenectady continues to dig out from snow storm

Schenectady continues to dig out from snow storm | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS North Street in the Stockade in Schenectady was still unplowed Friday. Shares0 SCHENECTADY The city is continuing to mop up after getting walloped by a severe snowstorm. “We’re catching up,” said city Mayor Gary McCarthy on Friday afternoon. “Most of the streets are plowed at this point and we’re now getting into snow removal.” Efforts are underway with a fleet of 24 dump trucks from the state Department of Transportation, as well as five loaders and seven city plows, as well as assistance from private subcontractors. Yet two days after the snow storm dumped as much as 31 inches in the city, criticism continued to mount from a peeved public over the city’s response that left some streets untouched for virtually all of Thursday.
