After the surprise 2019 closure of Commonwealth, a fine-dining restaurant hidden behind frosted glass in San Francisco’s Mission District, chef Ian Muntzert was wary of opening another restaurant, at least in a building he didn’t own.
But a move to Portland and a suddenly vacant space later, Muntzert is jumping in where he thought he never would again. In June, the former Commonwealth chef de cuisine will open Brasa Haya, a new Spanish restaurant in the former Beech Street Parlor space that will focus on high-quality meat and seafood, simply seasoned and grilled over live fire.
