The virtual public hearing ran a full 24 hours before being halted with hundreds still waiting to testify. In my time in Hartford, this has been one of the most controversial and hotly debated subjects ever considered. You know my sensibility on this it is incumbent on legislators to ask “what problem does this solve” on any pending legislation. If the problem is evident and the solution is clear and pragmatic, I’m on board. If not, we need to ask why not.

A series of zoning bills that could fundamentally change the fabric of our towns and cities have been voted favorably out of the Planning and Development and Transportation Committees, awaiting a vote in the General Assembly. While some of the most problematic language has been stripped, there is still an opportunity for lawmakers to put it back in or amend it further until the session ends in June.

Camillo said he will issue a formal statement of opposition to Senate Bill 1024, “An Act Concerning Zoning Authority, Certain Design Guidelines, Qualifications Of Certain Land Use Officials And Certain Sewage Disposal Systems” that is currently before the state legislature.
