OLD SAYBROOK With as many as a third of residents struggling to afford housing, town officials approved a plan Tuesday to increase stocks of cheaper housing units over the next five years.
The plan, which relies heavily on increasing the number of accessory dwelling units also known as granny pods as well as calls for new development and denser zoning, is non-binding on the town. Adoption of a five-year housing plan is required under a state law passed in 2017.
