john: pennsylvania is viewed by many democrats as the best chance of picking a senate seat. fetterman could beat mehmet oz, the most expensive senate race in american history. and the state facing a local challenge over certain ballots before the first votes have even been counted. national political reporter for the washington examiner on the ground in pittsburgh. let s deal with the race, first of all. this thing is really, really tight between mehmet oz and john fetterman. the democrats do lead in the early vote. i hear rana mcdaniel, the chair woman of the republican national committee say oz has to win 60% of the day of voting if he hopes to beat fetterman. are there indications he can do that? yeah, absolutely. i have seen it myself going out
but now there s been a ton of money spent it is a true tossup. if you were to go down, you lose a democratic leader, a republican pickup in new york, that would be a huge victory and probably signal that republicans are going to pick up the house. although we may not know that outcome of that race for some time because new york takes some time. you mentioned new york. there s a half dozen districts there, maloney s is in here. you mentioned the connecticut district over here. we just talked about this. this is suburban western pittsburgh, the northern virginia suburbs, this is suburbs down here by virginia beach. a common theme as you go through this that these house the competitive races, a lot in the suburbs. guess what, that will determine in the states that also have big senate and governor s races. pretty much historically the competitive seats have been in the suburbs because that s where more independent-minded voters live, and that s when those are people who tend t
democrats now, though, trying to define that map. let s bring up this map as we go back out. cnn spread across this country tracking all the big races that will decide which party ends up in power come january. let s go to nevada first. gary tuchman, a key race for senate, for governor, a battle for secretary of state involving an election denier. are you in one of the great midterm laboratories. reporter: that s right, john. here in this tourism gambling and show business mecca there s a very high-profile race about to get the limelight. it is the u.s. senate race between democratic incumbent senator katherine cortez masto and a republican, former attorney general of the state, adam laxalt. senator cortez masto is seen as very vulnerable in the state. she s the first latina to ever be in the u.s. senate. laxalt ran for governor and lost. in 2020 he joined a lawsuit to challenge the elections results that year here in nevada.
