democrats republicans. 47 to 46 today. we ll be looking at those cross tabs, as you know, matt. this morning on msnbc, speaker pelosi was chipping away at republicans claim that they are stronger on the economy. take a listen. under president biden who has been a great president, we have cut in half unemployment from seven a little more than seven, the three and a half percent. the deficit has come down from 2.8 to 1.4. cut in half the deficit. they say inflation, republican say inflation. they don t have a solution to inflation. because they don t have even one vote in favor of reducing the cost of living for america s working families. that is speaker nancy pelosi there. there is also senator bernie sanders who s been out, take a listen to what he said. there are studies out there that estimate that 50% of
much time talking about the economy and inflation, even if the facts are there, because republicans have a huge advantage on that. when you are voters perceive it as a troubled economy, and republicans are the party out of power, if you are talking about that, in my view, you are losing. they d be much better off relating everything to the threat to democracy. relating equity in the economy to the threat to democracy. relating reproductive rights to the threats to democracy. relating climate change, the ability to do anything to the threats to democracy. that s the grand i would be arguing as a democratic strategist and getting advice, not spending too much time on arguing the fine points of the facts on inflation and the economy. one of the things that becomes undeniable whether you are out there reporting or looking at this polling is the extent to which the state races have become nationalized. part of that is about policy and messages we talked about. also about the personaliti
poll, 57% of voters say november s election for the house and senate are more important to them than in past midterms. a one in five voters say threats to democracies their top issue. a combined 35% say jobs, the economy, and the cost of living are the issues they care about most. while republicans are spreading misinformation about the causes of inflation, democrats are working to provide voters real solutions to lower costs. just this weekend, house speaker nancy pelosi outlined the democrats agenda for the next two years, building on president biden s accomplishments. that includes relief, the child tax credit, expanding universal pre-k. msnbc political contributor john, the director of polling at the harvard kennedy school institute of politics. and mathew tao, founder of country over party. he served as chief strategist for the bush cheney 2004 presidential campaign.
