Muslim youths purchased 50kg of green fodder and fed it to cows
RAJKOT: They didn’t want to waste their pocket money on kites and also break Covid rules by gathering a crowd of friends at one spot. Instead, this group of Muslim youths in Savarkundla town of Amreli district, wanted their charitable spirit to soar high on Uttarayan.
“On occasion of Makarsankranti, besides the usual fun, our Hindu friends also donate to poor, or to charitable institutions and feed animals as part of the ritualistic celebrations. We too got inspired by their noble action and do something for the mute animals and so pooled in our resources to offer fodder to ailing cows,” Irfan Jadav, one of the group members, told TOI.
Rajkot: A 24-year-old woman, a mother of two daughters, accused her neighbour of raping her twice under the pretext of performing rituals that would help her conceive a son in Savarkundla town of Amreli district.
Police arrested Keshavdas Parmar (30) on Tuesday night for allegedly raping the woman first time in October last year and for the second time about a week ago.
According to police, the woman had two daughters and wanted another son. She was told that Parmar could help her conceive a son. Parmar promised her that by doing certain rituals she could give birth to a son.
Couple tying the knot at the mass marriage in Amreli on Friday
RAJKOT: They gathered in Chandgadh village of Amreli to enter into wedlock on Friday morning. Instead, about 18 couples had to escape from the venue to avoid ending up in police lockup. It was an embarrassing moment for the couples and their around 500 guests who had gathered for the mass wedding organized by the Koli Ekta Dal.
The ceremony was organized at 11 am and all the couples complete in their wedding costumes had taken the stage for tying the nuptial knots. But a team of cops reached the spot before the ceremony could begin. Spotting the police, the couples and their relatives sensed trouble and took off from the venue, causing complete chaos.
Rajkot: A 72-year-old bootlegger from Savarkundla was detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act on Saturday.
The bootlegger identified as Haba Unava will be sent to special jail in Bhuj to serve the detention period. The local crime branch of Amreli police had initiated the procedures of PASA Act against Unava. On Saturday, the district magistrate of Amreli invoked PASA Act by issuing warrant against Unava.
Police said that Unava has been booked under eight cases in Amreli district in last five years. Besides prohibition cases, Unava also faces charges of attempt to murder, rioting, assault and criminal intimidation among others in different police stations in Amreli.

RAJKOT: Doctors at the government-run children hospital successfully performed a complex surgery on a four-year-old rape survivor, who suffered severe damage to the perineum, the tissue between vagina and anus, in the sexual assault six months ago.
The girl from Savarkundla town of Amreli district was discharged from Janana Hospital on Monday after 10 days of treatment and the complex surgery.
Due to the damage, she was unable to control passing of stool and the surgery became complex due to her tender age and fragile organs. Doctors said the girl is still under immense trauma and initially resisted their attempts for medical examination.
