As of this writing, Bexar County has experienced snow, freezes and a persistent drought, so what will that mean for bluebonnets season?
Bluebonnets typically grow in the fall and bloom in the spring, usually in March. However, the wildflower has been known to bloom a lot sooner than March. For instance, in April 2019 the season started at the end of January and beginning of February due to abundant rainfall, according to AgriLife Today s website.
This year, Bexar County and other areas of Texas are still experiencing drought conditions. Areas in north Bexar County such as Timberwood Park and Leon Springs are under extreme drought while areas to the south are under a lesser severe drought.
