OPPD board member Janece Mollhoff said last weekâs vote was pivotal.
The project will help OPPD diversify its fuel mix and will move the district farther along in its effort to decarbonize, she said. Skyrocketing natural gas prices during this past winterâs rolling blackouts highlighted the importance of diverse fuel sources, she said.
Saunders County Board member Craig Bruenig said the vote was difficult.
âIâm sure there are going to be some hard feelings,â he said. âThe company met all the regulations, and we had an obligation to favor it.â
Board member Doris Karloff didnât attend the meeting or vote because her family owns property the project will be built on.
