The Arabian Karpov Cup, as part of the 1st Jeddah International Youth Festival, successfully fulfilled its mission: to present a platform for young players from the Arab and African regions to play in an international tournament, so as to increase their rating or simply to gain experience. The Jeddah Youth Chess Festival was held from 24 to 30 January in this Red Sea port in Saudi Arabia. It was a celebration of youth, chess and friendship while soaking the culture and hospitality of a welcoming nation that is opening its doors and hearts to chess and all sports. JEDDAH: The first kids’ chess tournament in Makkah, organized by the Saudi Chess Club, kicks off today at the King Abdulaziz Sports City. Around 60 kids, aged between 5 and 12, from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, India, and other countries are participating in the tournament. Kids will compete using watches that follow the Fischer system, which provides a 10-minute time limit.

JEDDAH: Members of the Women’s Association for Hearing Impairment in Jeddah (Emkan) triumphed in a Jeddah chess tournament recently, competing against those without hearing impairments to win the top four places. Emkan president Princess Nouf bint Muqrin bin Abdulaziz on Friday honored Shadin Al-Amr for winning first place in the Jeddah chess refresher tournament for women.
