i remember doing an event at the university of kansas. when it was over, we were running late. my dear departed friend, donald meyer, a great producer, he and i were in a car where we had to make it to the main airport in kansas city to get the last flight of the day back. so don said we were going 100-110 miles an hour all across the state. steve: you have been part of so many important parts in american television. you know, for instance, let s talk about saturday night life. and everyone is talking about lorne michaels. he invented it with you! right. but he was always the comic book genius. i was the guy that had the commitment from nbc for a late-night show. i was out looking for somebody to actually do the comedy. i was the organizer. and i met him one day outside of
